NIKKI LAOYE WINS 5TH AWARD OF 2014 AT THE INTERNATIONAL ALL AFRICA MUSIC AWARDS (AFRIMA).

Top Nigerian Inspirational singer, Nikki Laoye has emerged winner of the Best Female Artiste in African Inspirational Music category at the 2014 All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA,held on Saturday, December 27, at the Grand Ballroom, Oriental Hotel, Lagos Nigeria. 

Nikki was nominated alongside other inspirational artistes from across Africa including Monique (Nigeria), Gore Rapera (Zimbabwe) , Marema (Senegal), Sessime (Benin), Size 8 (Kenya).

AFRIMA is an international award organised by The International Committee of AFRIMA and its partner, the African Union Commission, which brings together some of the best talents from the five regions of the African continent. The event, which was hosted by Nigeria's 2Face Idibia and Togo’s bilingual radio and TV personality, Maryse Acotie witnessed awards picked up in 31 categories by Africa's best musical acts. 

Other awards earlier won by Nikki Laoye include Best Female Artist-Africa(AGMA,UK); Best Soft Rock/Alternative Video - Only You (NMVA); Best Worship Song - Only You (CRYSTAL AWARDS) and a special recognition humanitarian award - "Ambassador of Charity 2014" .

It has been a great year of recognition for Nikki Laoye, who is well renowned for her philantropic contributions to the society, as she was also unveiled as the Celebrity Voice for Refugees by the Federal Government establishment, NCFRMI (National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced persons), SouthWest Nigeria earlier on this year. Also the founder of Angel 4 Life Foundation, singer Nikki Laoye helps to provide empowerment, social and educational development for people with disabilities (visually impaired and physically challenged youths).

The hardworking singer recently released her sophomore album, "The 123 Project" which is now available at media stores (The Hub Media Store, Palms Mall Lekki) and on iTunes.

 She has also shot the video to her new dance hit single, "African Dance", featuring her brother/producer,Xblaze. The video is slated for release in January 2015.

NIKKI LAOYE'S ANGEL 4 LIFE FOUNDATION GRANTS UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP TO PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED FEMALE STUDENT, YINKA ADENLE.

26 year old female student, Yinka Adenle has been granted a full University Scholarship by popular singer & humanitarian, Nikki Laoye's Angel 4 Life Foundation, a non-profit organisation supporting people with disabilities.

The young physically challenged lady, who resides at Modupe Cole Home, Akoka, Lagos, has been given admission into a tertiary institution in Nigeria; her Tuition and Accomodation fees will be paid in full every year till she graduates and the foundation will also supervise her academic progress and social development at the university.

Nikki Laoye had recently kicked off the #Partner123 program - a call for sponsorship and donors to support the foundation's projects for visually impaired and physically challenged youths.

The fame of the program spread rapidly and raised an inspiring number of sponsors including the anonymous donor who has offered to support the University Education of young Yinka Adenle via the scholarship scheme of the foundation.

The foundation officially presented Yinka with a scholarship certificate during the week and she has already begun her admission process and clearance at the university.

Tagged the "TEACH-A-CHILD Project", the scholarship scheme is one of the numerous projects by Angel 4 Life Foundation and it aims to provide financial support towards the training and education of young people with disabilities.

An inspiring initiative indeed by the award winning singer, Nikki Laoye and today, we celebrate her specially as she adds another year today - 19th of December.

Long life and more strength to her as she champions the cause of people with disabilities daily.

The album titled "The 123 Project" is a special deluxe edition consisting of all the singles released by the award winning singer from 2011-2014 and some unreleased songs.

Divided into three categories, Chapter 1 - God; Chapter 2 - Love; Chapter 3 - Life, Nikki further defines her musical territory with this album as she speaks on matters of her Faith, Love and Life.

The concert is organised by the NGO, Inclusive Friends to raise awareness and funds to provide Toilets and Water for 6 schools serving Children with Disabilities in Plateau State.

The event which is scheduled to hold at Korret Centre Jos, Plateau State capital will feature mulitiple artiste performances from top artistes and groups including School for the Blind Children Gindiri, Jeremiah Gyang, Dr.Panam Percy Paul, Nikki Laoye, Grace Jerry, Chris Ade with comedy from Omodan and special appearance by Segun Arinze.

Proceeds from the concert will be channeled to construction of Water and Sanitation facilities for 6 schools serving Children with Disabilities in Plateau State.

Why Music For Toilets

Inclusive Friends is an organization that works to bring Disability at the forefront of development efforts in Nigeria through Advocacy, Training and Action. Led by Former Ms Wheelchair Queen, Ms Grace Jerry, the organization adopts the use of Music as a strategic tool to raising awareness of the challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities in accessing Water and Sanitation in the country. Currently more than 112 Million Nigerians lack access to improved sanitation. This has widespread consequence for Health, dignity,Economic development of  persons. Sadly persons with Disabilities are the worst hit as they are forced to crawl on the floor on latrine when the facilities are not accessible.

Music for Toilets , which seeks to address this gaps by supporting children to go to school through the provision of Water and Toilets in schools.

The NGO,Inclusive Friends is headed by former Ms wheelchair Queen, Disability rights advocate and gospel artiste impacting her world with her life, work and Music. Currently she leads a passionate team that works to create an inclusive world.

MUSIC: BEZ : THERE'S A FIRE

After the release of his debut album , "Super Sun", Bez is back with the break out 1st single off his forth coming album.

"There's A Fire" marks Bez's return to the Nigerian music scene, it showcases his intentional sound swathed in African rhythms and syncopation. "There's A Fire" is an evolution of the sound that Bez fans all over the world have come to know and love.

The music is beautiful, creative and showcases an authentic African groove, fusing a large horn section, call and response and a long coda that is reminiscent of the  late great Fela Kuti compositions. Bez has spent the past year recording in studios in New York, Houston, Lagos, and even going to his Northern Nigerian village of Karu, Nassarawa State to work with and record traditional musicians and instrumentation to craft this big, bodacious, brilliant and brassy collection of records of which "There's A Fire" is the first single.

The track features phenomenal bassist and recording artist, Michael Olatuja. Houston TX based, Marcie Chapa, extraordinary percussionist who currently plays in  "Suga Mama", Beyonce's all female band. Tying the sound all together is Bez's producer and label head, Cobhams Asuquo.

There's A Fire is a brilliantly crafted love song, co-written by both Bez and X3M Music recording artiste, Simi.

#GetNaked: THE FIGHT AGAINST HIV/AIDS - NIKKI LAOYE, ASHIONYE, TEE A, OWEN GEE, ZAINA, TAOFICK OKOYA & MORE GET NAKED!!

‘Get Naked’ is a creative photo campaign created by SheiFunmi Nomia-Yusuf to raise awareness about the risks of the incurable HIV/AIDS disease amongst teenagers and young adults. This initiative is primarily a result of the social and psychological stigma associated with the  HIV virus as well as the AIDS disease.

The aim of this initiative is evident in it’s tagline: Go “BOLD” and “BARE”….protect yourself! As Nigerian youths, we know people that live with this disease undergo prejudice as well as stigmatization and as a result, disclosure is less and risks of infection are high.

In its 3rd year, this approach in tackling HIV/AIDS is a never before experienced one in Nigeria. The GET NAKED campaign features celebrity faces that youths can identify with, mentors and entertainment icons to lend their voices in encouraging abstinence/safe sex, disclosure, and draw international attention to this deadly disease through its creative photo campaign.

 

The 2014 edition of the ‘Get Naked’ campaign kicked off with a closed shoot in April, which held at Ovation Magazine head office in Lagos, Nigeria. The closed shoot had famous faces such as Tee A, Ashionye, Nikki Laoye, MTV VJ - Ehiz, Taofick Okoya, 2013 Elite Model Winner Nneoma Anosike, Vector, Bassey Ikpi, Zaina and many more getting naked for the initiative, with Sunmisola Olorunisola as the official photographer for the campaign.  

In 2012, Get Naked Campaign launched with a mini concert and an open shoot at Ikeja City Mall, Lagos. The likes of Tosyn Bucknor, Dammy Krane, Eva Alordiah, Kel, Capital FEMI, Kenneth Okolie, Shola Animashaun were present and they even got tested openly at the event to encourage guests to know their status. 

Before the maiden edition, a test run shoot took place in the UK where the project was initially executed. 

Speaking about #GetNaked2014, the founder SheiFunmi Nomia-Yusuf shared; "I intend to take this campaign to different cities in different countries because this is a creative and fun way to get your message across to youths today, imagine the amount of lives that will be touched with a campaign as creative as this. The destination this year is Nigeria, who knows where the next edition will take place?" 

This year's edition of #GetNaked has a sequel for social media, starring Linda Ejiofor, KC Ejelonu, Tonye Garrick, Vina, Charity Owoh, Shank, VJ Adams, James Mavrik... to name a few.

ORITSEFEMI, NIKKI LAOYE, SAHEED OSUPA, NAETO C PERFORM AT SENATOR OBANIKORO'S DECLARATION CEREMONY

Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has officially declared his intention to contest in the Lagos State elections 2015 as Governor under the the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)

This was made known yesterday at a well organised declaration ceremony at the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos where he was warmly received by a large crowd, alongside his wife.

Inspirational singer, Nikki Laoye kicked off the event with her beautiful rendition of the National Anthem while artistes such as Oritsefemi, Fuji crooner, Saheed Osupa and HipHop artist, Naeto C thrilled the crowd in turns.

Stepping up to the podium, the former Minister of State, Defence spoke at his declaration tagged #WalkWithMe, stating that it's time for more attention to be paid to the rural areas of the state

“We have seen billions spent on sand filling our waters, we have seen billions spent in repairing Bourdillon road and I believe it is time for a new change. I believe it is time for government to spend billions on upgrading infrastructures in Alimosho, in Shomolu, Kosofe and other parts".

“A greater Lagos is where hard working families can be successful in Lagos and where the down-trodden will be benefit from government. We must all stand together to ensure that we have a new and better Lagos. A new Lagos where the masses of the state will not be left out. That is the kind of Lagos that I offer in 2015".

Speaking further, he said "I am going to ensure that my wealth of experience, having served at all levels of government, will come to bare in May 2015 and I will ensure we have a constructive engagement with the Federal Government of Nigeria. I don’t know of any mega city in the world that has managed its affairs on its own without the involvement of other tiers of government,”.  I want to urge the people of Lagos to stand with me to ensure we achieve that greater Lagos.” he said.

Few days earlier, Senator Obanikoro's son, Ibrahim BabaJide Obanikoro (IBO), who is also running for the Eti-Osa Constituency, won the PDP primaries and will be contesting fully in the upcoming elections.

The renowned online radio station has been such a blessing over the years and now have plans to upgrade their facility, equipment, service and widen their coverage.

The station has been running majorly on personal funding from the CEO of the station, Tola Omoniyi. 

To make this happen, a sum of  N10m million naira is required and a call for donations from N1000 upwards has begun from the 24th of November.

#Praiseworld1000 is not just a fundraising campaign, but more about a family coming together to achieve a goal, in an engaging, fun and trendy way.

A couple of Nigerian artistes are showing their support via e-flyer campaigns to help spread the word and raise more funds for the radio station.

The campaign runs for a 15 day period, starting on Monday November 24 till December 8, 2014.

Shot on location in Chicago and Indiana, USA, the video was directed by her husband, Teddy Don-Momoh for Branama Afrique.

The video also features cameo appearance by Chicago based Bulls Point guide, Derrick Pat Avre of Nigeria Falcons.
