[PRESS RELEASE BY WAHALA MEDIA]
We, at Wahala Media Entertainment stand as Nigerian female singer, Nikki Laoye's management and hereby send out a general press statement with regards to the circulating blog news referring to a misconstrued statement by our artiste,Nikki Laoye.
It was brought to our notice that parts of her statement, with regards to an anti-gay law question, was culled from her recent interview in ThisDay Newspaper (22nd March, 2014) and put out on the following sites: www.nigeriafilms.com and www.naij.com.
The first sentence from her statement was removed, hereby providing a different meaning from what was initially said and started off a barrage of insults and comments against her person due to the misinterpreted statement.
What Nikki Laoye said:
"Personally I am all for man and woman relationships only. I believe that it's the ideal plan by God when he created humankind. I just think the law and the 14 years imprisonment are unnecessary. Nigerians, even before the law, don’t appreciate or condone the gay mode. So to me,it doesn't change anything.
We have other pending law matters for more important issues we are facing as a nation that need to be addressed such as Protection of the Nigerian citizens, the senseless killings of the young unarmed students, our electricity issues. These should be looked into fully instead"
What blogs wrote:
"I believe that it's the ideal plan by God when he created humankind. I just think the law and the 14 years imprisonment are unnecessary. Nigerians, even before the law, don’t appreciate or condone the gay mode."
This blog story has been further posted by many blogs and websites, creating a further media frenzy as the reproduced statement suggests that Nikki said "being gay is an ideal plan by God" and has caused more attacking comments against our artiste all over facebook and the internet at large.
We hereby write to notify the public that statement put out by the blogs was incomplete and an untrue perception of our artiste, who is a believing Christian and stands by her heterosexual beliefs, without judging or condemning anyone and only speaks for a better government and a better Nigeria.
We also remind everyone that this topic is a sensitive national issue and We are not excited to see this kind of public uproar for our artiste,Nikki Laoye via a potentially harmful story. It has created an unkind public outlook to a hardworking artiste who is
re-focusing on her career after her recent comeback since her Dad's death.
We kindly request that all media platforms who have put up this story either take it down or put out a retraction post - a corrective story that sets this situation right by putting up the entire statement in full.
We do not know what the true motives are behind the projection of such a story but we would like to ensure that everyone knows the truth about it and stop the undeserved media castigation.
Thank You and God bless everyone who has been supporting Nikki Laoye and her career.
