WAOMM KICKS OFF MENTORSHIP PROGRAM FOR UPCOMING ARTISTS - INTRODUCES BLERISA & REJOICE

WAOMM(Women Of African Origin in Music Ministry) officially kicks off with a Mentorship Program for Upcoming Artists.

After the successful inauguration of WAOMM in Nigeria in March 2016 at the NECA Event Place, a mentorship program has kicked off as promised by the WAOMM Founding President, Isabella Ogo-Uzodike, and the WAOMM Coordinator for Nigeria, Onos Ariyo.

After painstaking consideration, WAOMM Nigeria is very proud and excited to unveil our first two

exceptionally gifted young music ministers, who have been carefully chosen for mentoring and support.

These two beautiful young ladies are already making inroads in the Gospel music arena and WAOMM Nigeria is committed to supporting, empowering, equipping and encouraging them to reach their fullest potentials in their God-given gifts and talents.

The WAOMM Nigeria mentorship programme is tailored to provide our mentees with guidance and support in the following areas:

WAOMM Nigeria hereby presents to you Blerisa and Rejoice!

BLERISA

Blerisa, whose full name is Blessing Aderiyike Manafa, is a Christian singer/songwriter.

She began her music career in the year 2014 when she won a song writing contest called 'Greenhunt' organized by Greenland Music. 

The prize of the contest was a free production and promotion of a song which today is her first ever single titled 'Praise the lord'. Later that same year, Blerisa released yet another single titled 'I give my heart’ and in 2015 another titled 'E go better'.

'Praise the lord' was nominated for the 'Africa Gospel Music Awards’ in the same year of its release in the category of 'Discovery of the year 2014', she being only 18 as at then was the youngest in the category and the only artist with just two singles.
Although she didn't win, she received a lot of accolades and recognition for her debut effort. 

'I give my heart’ has been the most successful of her music releases as several testimonials have been received from across the world about its impact on people's lives. 

Her most recent single, 'E go better' has been aired on several radio stations like Wazobia FM, Nigeria Info FM, SMA FM, Cool FM Abuja, Praise world radio and more.

Blerisa has also participated in other competitions like XFactor 2014 where she finished as part of the Lagos finalists; Destiny Child 2014 where she finished in the top 6; Project Nuwine 2015 where she finished in the top 15;  Amstel Malta showtime 2014 where she finished as the top female vocalist;  Florocka's song writing contest tagged 'Flip 2 Tha beat' where she finished second and a few others.

Blerisa intends to use her gift to influence lives positively and to educate people, especially youths like herself about the unconditionality of God's love!

She is affiliated to a number of artists such as Onos Ariyo, Nikki Laoye , Florocka, Sokleva Hughes (Rooftop Mcs), Ranti, Ebisan and many others.

She is also currently in the studio working on her debut album and will be out with another single soon.

REJOICE

Rejoice Eweama is a Gospel artist who started her singing at age 6 and since then has been a blessing to the body of Christ.

Blessed with a sonorous glass shattering voice that permeates the heavenlies, Rejoice Eweama is a minister laced with the grace of a worshipper and is one you would always crave to be under her ministrations over and over again.

In 2011, she won an award as the best singer during a singing competition
at Musical society of Nigeria (Muson).

In 2013 and 2014, she also won Davidic Praise Worship Awards, respectively.

She's the first runner up of the just concluded gospel contest, Project Nu Wine season 4 organised by The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM)

She's a passionate music minister, song writer and singer who believes that singing is her medium of

impacting, inspiring and encouraging lives.

She serves at Elohim's Tabernacle Church under the spiritual leadership of Pastor Paul Olashore.

She has by the grace of God shared platform with anointed ministers like: Tim Godfrey, Sammie Okposo, Onos Ariyo, Isabella Melodies, Emmy Kosgei to mention a few.

Rejoice is getting set to host her 1st ever music concert tagged "An Evening of Worship with Rejoice" on Sunday, November 27th 2016 at the Elohim's Tabernacle Church Lekki.

NEW RELEASE: FUNBI RELEASES DEBUT SINGLE - 'HALLELUJAH'

The male vocalist best pioneering the new school rhythm in Nigeria is Funbi - a soul singer and storyteller whose essence captures the past, highlights the present, and sets the standard for the next generation of Afrobeat sounds.

Funbi is poised to make his solo debut with the first official single from his upcoming project, a reflective track titled “Hallelujah”. The tune, written by Sir Dauda and Funbi, comes at a time he considers ripe.

“‘Hallelujah’ is like opening the gate,” Funbi said.

“We all fight different battles as we journey through life. The key is to find a way to use them as an opportunity for growth. My battles inspired this song....I hope it inspires you"

The upcoming project will delve deeper into the Funbi ether. From funk to soul, folk and alternative, with this debut the singer looks forward to enticing more listeners to his brand of cool.

HAIL THE CLASSIC MAN! - JIDENNA'S VISIT TO NIGERIA - ALL THE GLITZ & GLAMOUR

Last week, Lagos stood up to welcome Nigeria’s own Jidenna for a long-awaited and exciting visit.

The Classic Man touched down at Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos on Tuesday, August 30th amidst loud cheers and welcoming screams from his adoring fans. He was hosted by Eko Hotels and Suites where he and his team had delicious dinner prepared specially by the hotel’s restaurant staff.

No breaks for this hard worker, as the next morning he commenced a media tour. Starting off at Beat Fm for an interview hosted by Olisa and Maria Okan, he visited many other media houses like Cool Fm, NdaniTV, Pulse TV and countless others, making sure to leave the interviewers doubled-over with laughter. He is fondly remembered as having such a warm and friendly persona, always quick to joke and very approachable.

Ace photographer Kelechi Amadi was tasked with conducting a photoshoot for Jidenna, and he chose Broad Street in Lagos Island as his location. This turned out to be quite a herculean task, as hundreds of fans mobbed the shoot cheering and requesting for selfies. 

Through it all, it is very commendable that Jidenna kept his cool, was very humble and collected, and granted requests for selfies and photographs. We hear that he even made it rain! Another photoshoot was conducted quietly for him by the Maestro, TY Bello at her famous studio in Yaba, Lagos. Later that evening, he kicked back with some of the biggest names in African entertainment, including Banky W, M.I, Poe, Cobhams, Ebuka Okija and Vanessa Mdee, who had all turned up to welcome and show their support for The Classic Man.

Next day, he made a quick stop at Smooth FM, and then on to a sound check with his band for his sensational performance at HardRock Cafe.

The show kicked off that evening with fans in attendance, and the venue filled to its rafters! The excitement was very palpable and the fans were not disappointed at all! Jidenna performed his internationally jamming song ‘Classic Man’, his new chart-topper ‘Little Bit More’ and his already widely-acclaimed hit ‘Chief Don’t Run’. He shared the stage with America’s favorite Mr Eazi and fans were thrilled to a surprise performance by Nigeria’s rockstar BurnaBoy! All in all, that night is one that will not be forgotten in a hurry!

Next morning saw Jidenna in Enugu State where he continued his media tour with a visit to Urban Fm and other media houses in the state. He stopped over at Enugu State University where his father lectured, and showed a philanthropic side in awarding several scholarships to deserving awardees.

Nigeria made sure she did not send him back empty-handed! He received several gifts including a special presentation from the pupils of the primary school he attended, and a set of beautifully made outfits by ace clothier, Ugo Monye.

We guess it’s safe to say that we are heartbroken to see the Classic Man leave Nigeria’s shores, and we are simply giddy with excitement and anticipation for his return!

FACEBOOK CEO, MARK ZUCKERBERG VISITS NIGERIA TO WITNESS AFRICA'S TECH REVOLUTION

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg visited Nigeria recently on his first trip to Africa, using his time in the country to visit the Yaba technology hub in Lagos, meet with developers and partners, and explore Nollywood.

Zuckerberg was in Nigeria to listen and learn and take ideas back to California on how Facebook can better support tech development and entrepreneurship across Africa.

One of his first stops on the trip was to visit a 'Summer of Code Camp' at the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, known as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria.

CcHub opened in 2011 and at the time didn't even have an office. Five years later they fill three floors and the roof of a building. At CcHub people can learn how to code, developers can get help launching their first products, and find mentors and funding.

At CcHub Zuckerberg met with developers like Temi Giwa, who runs a platform called Life Bank that makes blood available when and where it is needed in Nigeria. Life Bank saves lives by mobilizing blood donations, taking inventory of all blood available in the country, and delivering blood in the right condition to where it is needed.

After visiting CcHub Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, said:

“This is my first trip to sub-Saharan Africa. I'll be meeting with developers and entrepreneurs, and learning about the startup ecosystem in Nigeria. The energy here is amazing and I'm excited to learn as much as I can.

“The first place I got to visit was the Co-creation Hub Nigeria (CcHUB) in Yaba. I got to talk to kids at a summer coding camp and entrepreneurs who come to CcHub to build and launch their apps.  I'm looking forward to meeting more people in Nigeria.”

Meeting developers at Andela

Mark then went to Andela, an engineering organization that is building the next generation of technical leaders in Africa.

Andela is a business that recruits the most talented technologists in Africa and shapes them into world-class developers through a four-year technical leadership program. In the two years since it was founded, Andela has accepted just over 200 engineers from a pool of more than 40,000 applicants. Andela developers spend six months mastering a technical stack and contributing to open source projects before being placed with global technology companies as full-time, distributed teammates, working out of Andela headquarters in Lagos and Nairobi.

Earlier this year, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative invested in Andela after being impressed by the company's innovative model of learning and its drive to connect the global technology ecosystem with the most talented developers in Africa.

Seni Sulyman, Director, Andela Lagos, said: “We are excited and honored to welcome Mark Zuckerberg to Lagos. His visit reinforces not only his support of Andela’s mission, but his belief that indeed the next generation of great technology leaders will come out of Lagos, Nigeria and cities across Africa. Andela has created a platform for passionate, driven software developers and engineers to break into the global tech ecosystem, but the barriers to entry are still very high. Mark’s visit demonstrates to all Nigerian developers and entrepreneurs that they’ve caught the attention of the tech world, and they are capable of succeeding on a truly global level."

At the end of the day Zuckerberg stopped by an Express WiFi stand in Lagos owned by Rosemary Njoku. Facebook's Express WiFi lets entrepreneurs like Rosemary set up a hot spot to help their community access apps and services built by local developers.
