SPAN NIGERIA PRESENTS - SPANFEST: THE 1ST ANNUAL PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL (8TH -15TH NOV, 2013)



From the 8th – 15th of November, 2013, SPAN will be hosting, for the first time ever, SPANFest, a performing arts festival which will be a modern day experience of the great “FESTAC 77”.

SPANFest is designed to be an 8day event which will hold at the prestigious Ocean View, Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos, Nigeria; presenting workshops, and events which will showcase performances and presentations in various forms of performing arts including Dance, Music, Spoken word, Theatre and Comedy.

As part of the plan to take the festival audience on a ‘Journey of Wonders’, SPAN will be bringing together International and local artistes to make ground-breaking presentations at well-crafted events. The Festival will showcase International, African and local (Nigerian) artistes mixed up in an alchemy that will inspire audiences, invigorate artists, stimulate the industry and forge productive relationships around the globe.

SPANFest will kick off with a grand opening show by ‘Battery Dance Company’, an international dance group coming in from New York; They will kick-off the festival on the 8th of November, 2013 with a captivating show. During the Festival week, there will be workshops and classes during the day, while evenings will deliver entertainment through Theater productions, Dance presentations, Music events, and a Diversity Award Night to bring the festival to a grand close.

According to the festival Curator and Chairperson of SPAN, Sarah Boulos,  “.It’s been 9 years since SPAN was launched, and though we’ve put together countless events, this is going to be the grandest. We will be taking guests on a journey of wonders and giving them historical and memorable moments.



During the Festival week, there will be music and dance workshops during the day, headed by facilitators coming in from New York, while each evening will deliver world class entertainment through Theater productions, Dance presentations, Music events, and comedy including a Jazz Night, Taruwa evening, and Wishes & Horses, a theater production.

On Friday, November 15, 2013, the festival will come to a grand close with The SPAN AWARDS, a glamorous night of fine wine, elegant dining and exquisite entertainment, honoring individuals and Organisations that have made an impact in the arts.

‘Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria’ SPAN, is an NGO set up in February 2005 with the aim of creating a world-class standard for performing arts education and expression in Nigeria. Span offers exceptional opportunities in dance, music, theatre and visual arts to talented Nigerian youth, by inspiring, training, and empowering them, so that their creativity is unleashed.

One of SPAN’s main objectives is the empowerment of youths with various opportunities through SKILLSET DEVELOPMENT, and in 8 years of existence, they have consistently trained youths with appropriate skills and techniques that can help them build careers as well as facilitate the continuity of African art.
